Old business topics covered:
- We're still looking for an Inter-club Council representative to represent us during the ICC campus meetings. Topics discussed during these meetings include what various clubs are doing on campus, events clubs are promoting, or fun things that are happening on campus. The meetings are on Wednesday from 12:30p-1:20p and are usually twice a month. If interested, please email mcc.cnsa@gmail.com.
- Sweatshirts/shirts: After a rocky start, I'm happy to announce that the sweatshirts will be finished by the end of the day. We will hope to have them all distributed by the end of next week at the latest.
- Littmann orders have finally come in, so please see Denise in 4403 to pick up your order. Thanks for your patience!
- CSUSM group events: CSUSM was nice enough to reach out to us asking if we'd be interested in a joint chapter event. When they have an event lined up, we'll join them and see how they run their community events.
- TB skin test administration/reading clinic: Marge Reyzer, RN, health services coordinator, reached out to us asking for volunteers to administer TB Mantoux tests and to also read them at the CLC, another MCC campus. Pick up the latest edition of MiraCosta's newsletter The Chariot to see our club members in action!
- Mentorship: Hopefully you're mentee/mentor has contacted you by now. Are you getting what you want out of this relationship? If you're having trouble, please contact the coordinator, Kristine and express your concerns.
New business topics covered:
- Club website: well, if you're reading this, you're aware of our website. It's still a work in progress, so if you have any advice/tips on what you want to see on here, please email mcc.cnsa@gmail.com and let us know.
- Passing the torch: All of the officers this semester are 4th semester students, so these positions will need to be filled once we graduate. Positions are 2 semesters long, however this can be shortened or lengthened through voting. The definition of each role is described in our bylaws, which will be available on this site shortly. As Pete (secretary) stated, this club is whatever you want it to be. If there are things you want to improve upon, you can certainly do so by becoming an active member or officer.
- Next meeting date: We're constantly trying to find a date in which we can maximize attendance from all semesters. It seems like thursday or tuesday might be best, however we haven't set a date yet. Once we finalize a date, we'll send an email and also post it here, so check the site regularly.
- PPH relocation: it was mentioned in previous meetings that help may be needed to move things from Palomar Medical Center to the new hospital, PMC West. This would be a good opportunity to "rub elbows" with the staff at a potential employer. Roland will keep us informed on this opportunity.
Suggestions for the club/events:
- Some members expressed interest in traveling to Mexico to give nursing aid, perhaps during the long summer break. Trips to Rady's/SNFs to meet/play with the kids/residents were also suggested.
- Having a health booth at the weekly Oceanside Farmer's Market on Thursday to educate the community and to perform basic tests such as BP, HR, or blood glucose tests.
We'll contact Roland and Sandy and see if these suggestions are feasible and discuss this further during the next meeting.
